WWII Waffen SS Collaboration Poster 1943 - Which of these two is the true Dutchman?

Designer: Lou Manche

Publisher / Client: SS Recruitment & Propaganda in the Netherlands, via the Department of Public Information and the Arts mo71

Dimensions: approx. 82 × 59.5 cm

Original Dutch propaganda poster from the early years of World War II. March and April 1943 display designed by Lou Manche, the regular poster artist for the NSB and SS in the Netherlands. The poster depicts two contrasting figures: on the one hand, the royal family, a "true Dutchman," and on the other, a proud young man in SS uniform, depicted healthy and strong. With the question "Which of these two is the true Dutchman?", the Dutch public, and especially young men, were encouraged to enlist in the Waffen-SS. This contrast was intended to remove any doubt and emphasize that only choosing the SS would be a "true" act of patriotism.

Condition:

The poster is in excellent condition. The image area is perfectly preserved, with bright colors and sturdy paper. Only two very small, minimal tears are present along the edges, but these do not detract from the image in any way. For an original SS recruitment poster from this period, this is exceptionally good condition.
